About the Best of Burque

Each year, the results are tabulated from thousands of readers who participate in the competition. This includes over 200,000 readers, which makes the local publication number three in readership. So, it’s a big deal.

June is National Rose Month

And, it also signals the imminent arrival of National Rose Month – one of our favorite celebrations! This blog provides ideas on how to celebrate roses as well as introduces you to some of our popular flower arrangements that feature our freshest roses.

Celebrating National Rose Month

There are many ways to celebrate National Rose Month:

  • Plant a rose bush or tree to make a space a bit greener and prettier!
  • Visit a botanical garden to enjoy the roses in bloom.
  • Send someone you love some roses so they can celebrate this special month as well!
  • If you are getting married in June, feature roses in your wedding flowers and wedding bouquet.

To celebrate National Rose Month, we are already stocking up with extra roses from our farming partners to ensure that there will be plenty of roses to enjoy throughout the month of June. Here are some of our latest designs that incorporate roses:

Each year, in the United States, teachers are honored during the first week of May as part of Teacher Appreciation Week, also known as National Teacher’s Week with the main celebration on Tuesday, May 7th for National Teacher’s Day.

Keeping Flowers Fresher, Longer

To help you keep the flowers at their best, we also offer many tips on maintaining the freshness of our flowers and plants. Here are some great tips to keep in mind when you receive our flowers:

  • Keep the vase filled (or floral foam soaked) with water containing a flower food provided by your florist. Flower foods provide sugars, balance ph and limit bacterial growth. It is important to follow the mixing directions on the food packet. Most packets are to be mixed with either a pint or a quart of water. Do not dilute with more water than is specified on the packet.freshp4
  • Check your arrangement daily to make sure it has plenty of clear fresh water. If possible, re-cut stems by removing one to two inches with a sharp knife or scissors that will not crush the stems. Immediately place the stems into warm solution or deeply and firmly back into floral foam.
  • Keep flowers in a cool spot (65 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit), away from direct sunlight, heating or cooling vents, directly under ceiling fans, or near appliances. Heat from appliances or hot and cold drafts cause flowers to dehydrate.
